Backfire! have returned. A new album, "In Harms Way" and a new home, GSR. Both from Maastricht, the Netherlands and both leading the way in 2008 within the hardcore scene. Not too many hardcore bands last more than a couple of years and it is with this longevity of more than 12 years that has kept Backfire! as one of the leaders of the European hardcore scene, which has seen them through the hard times, yet still come out on top by playing numerous support tours with hardcore legends such as Biohazard, Warzone and Madball, release albums that are a staple of many a hardcore kid's record collection, ultimately making them a force to be reckoned with within hardcore. "In Harms Way" is Backfire!'s first album since 2003's classic "Change The game" and what a return it is. 5 years in waiting and they do not dissapoint as "In Harms Way" proves to be Backfire!'d most visceral, pissed off energetic offering to date. Not much has changed stylistically as Backfire! still tread the same floorboards they always did, by playing aggressive New York influenced hardcore with a European touch incorporating subtle melodies here and there. Everything is there, the razor sharp guitars slashing from left to right, the armoured tank artillery, the collossal earhquake like basslines, all mixed with Patrick's signature vocals that spew forth lyrics of angst and frustration as we pass into a new year, which round everythign off the way it should be, the Backfire! way. It's not that often that Hardcore bands reach the 10 year mark of existence, let alone surpass that milestone, and it's even more surprising when they do it with the original line up. London's infamous Knuckledust have done just that, retaining their integrity and values that they first started out with all those years ago and earning much respect from hardcore , punk and metal kids all over the world. Returning with their 3rd album for GSR, Knuckledust are as rowdy and violent as ever on their upcoming release "Promises Comfort Fools" keeping their signature sound of New York influenced hardcore as brutal as ever. There is nothing pretty about "Promises Comfort Fools", it's just pure venomous rage spitting bile from every pour and open wound. 
Pierres' vocals are as raw and brutal as ever spewing energy that is reflective of his live performance. The music is like a bar room brawl between two rival football firms. It's ugly, obnoxious and brutal, giving you no chance to breathe or back down, just inciting pure violence with every crack of the snare, every bludgeoning riff and every lyric unleashed.
Pure unadulterated violence. That doesn't mean that Knuckledust haven't matured with their latest release. "Promises Comfort Fools" encompasses everything that Knuckledust is and ever was, yet still finds ways to inject new life into a style that can easily become stale. The level of groove matches the intensity of the crushing breakdowns and the hurricane like, built for circle pit fast parts as songs stand out from one another and infect the body and mind like the ebola virus on speed. Knuckledust have really outdone themselves and their relentless work ethic of touring the world shows through on "Promises Comfort Fools". Old and new fans of Knuckledust will love this album and if you like music that is tough as nails, hard, aggressive and uncompromising, then you will have comfort in knowing that there is at least one album in 2007 that has those qualities as it's foundations.

“DAY OF DEFIANCE” is music to murder your dying pets to. Aggression and simplicity are key and DEAD REPRISE have created a thoroughly violent masterpiece.

DEAD REPRISE is from Sweden, a country well known for its hardcore, emo and metal bands. Of late though, the music that has been exported from this land has lacked something, something we shall call aggression. From the first few seconds of the first song from the debut full length “DAY OF DEFIANCE” it is obvious what DEAD REPRISE’s aim is. That aim is to take your skull and bludgeon it, crush it and basically turn it into a bloody pulp leaving nothing recognisable to the naked eye, only dental records will be able to identify the gruesome mess that lays before you. That is how aggressive “DAY OF DEFIANCE” is, and what’s worse, is that you won’t even realise what you’ve done until the last chords ring out and you awaken from the trance like state that you were in whilst this massacre was taking place. The sound is raw and yet polished, it’s heavy, yet not muddy and hits hard with every single song. This is music made for people who are ugly, big and ugly again, it’s made for those that need to express the violent rage that flows within them. Bad day at work, problem with your girlfriend, just been robbed, the simple solution is easy, put on “DAY OF DEFIANCE” and after 38 minutes, you will feel better, much much better. “DAY OF DEFIANCE” is a simple album, it doesn’t stray too far from the path, experimentation is not key for the listener to get what they need, and that is the beauty of this album. As far as debut albums go, this is right up there at the top of the pile. You WILL be hearing from DEAD REPRISE.

Germany’s finest export of hardcore fuelled punk, The Crushing Caspars, return with their debut album for GSR Music titled “The Fire Still Burns” which is surely set to become their most successful release of their career to date. With driving guitars and machine gun drums all topped off with memorable and hooky lyrics and vocals that still remain raw and true to the Crushing Caspars’ hardcore and punk ethics, “The Fire Still Burns” has something for everyone who likes energetic, high octane pounding music to slam dance insanely to. Production on these 15 anthems of anarchic rage hell bent on pit destruction, bar fights and drinking with friends was wielded by Jacob Bredahl (Hatesphere, Barcode, Allelujah) at Smart n Hard Studios, that gives the rawness of the songs some smooth touches here and there and a huge sound without losing the dangerous feel and energy that the songs were born with in a sweaty crampt practice room in Rostock, Germany. The Crushing Caspars were already a hard working, hard touring ball of fire that has ignited many clubs and festivals all over the world into swarming seas of sweaty stage diving slam dancing punks. Now, with the release of “The Fire Still Burns”, that hungry work ethic looks set to reach an even greater high as the Crushing Caspars set out to enlist even more soldiers to their crushing army. The fire, indeed, still burns white hot and intensely and looks to do so for quite some time.
